Self-Reflection

29 05 2009

1. In your opinion, what was the purpose of this blogging activity? (Why did I choose to do blogging instead of more traditional writing activities?)

The blogging activity let us open our minds to the public, and write what we feel for others to see. We got to experience different fields of who sees what we write. At school, people that we know get to see what we write, but when we publish what we write on the internet many people see what we wrote, and most of the time they are people we don’t know. Not only does blogging allow what we write to be seen by others, it is also very environment friendly. We don’t waste paper like the way we do with the traditional method when we use blogs. It’s easier for our teachers to grade what we write, and there’s no way the paper you write could ever get lost, because it will always be on your website. It makes it easier for the teachers, and the students to communicate, be environmentally friendly, and do what they are supposed to do for school.

2. What have you accomplished during your blogging?

I got the chance to break out of my comfort zone with my writing, and who reads it. I never imagined myself going out there and publishing what I loved to write about. Blogging has actually opened my mind to different careers, not saying that I’m an amazing writer or anything but I have officially opened the option of becoming a writer. I accomplished the stage of writing freely. Before, I enjoyed having the teachers give me the rules, and I didn’t feel comfortable writing with an open mind, but blogging now let me get comfortable with writing whatever I felt like putting down to paper. Blogging brought me a lot of accomplishments. For example, letting me get good grades, writing what I feel, and learning to get used to different types of writing. I’m actually quite thankful that we got to do blogging this quarter, it was actually pretty fun. Sure, the deadlines were somewhat unappealing but we all made it though and had a fun and enjoyful time writing about things we like. For me, it was fashion and style. Fashion is one of those things in life that I will always be best at. Sometimes, fashions has been more normal to me than breathing.

3. What key concepts have you learned while blogging? (This can be about writing, research or technology etc.)

My researching techniques definitely got better. I finally got it in my head to give credit to the places where I get my research from. I take the time now to copy and paste websites, or book titles to my blog. Research was a big part of my blogging experience. See, fashion isn’t something you can figure out on your own. You need to have someone else’s opinion, criticism and knowledge, and when you research about your topic, you learn more from another person’s point of view. I’ve also learned how to use another website, that being edublogs. I got to discover another site to use in the future. Getting to use edublogs was definitely educating in a way. Many, many ways actually, one of them was that I learned how to use codes. There were many times when we wanted to show others a video, a picture, or we wanted to post something on our profile but we couldn’t do that manually. We had to go search for an html code which allowed us to post the “Entertainment” we wanted onto our profile/blog.

4. Based on the skills you learned while blogging, how will this benefit you in the future? This maybe inside or outside of school.

Blogging will benefit me inside and outside of school. Blogging allows others to see what you wrote, and let’s say you want to be an author, well when you blog others see what you wrote and they give you tips, criticisms, and supports on what you wrote. That helps you become a better writer, especially when a person gives you tips, because those tips give you the push you need to improve in your writing. Inside of school, blogging helps you see what your classmates are capable of when it comes to writing. I must say, I was impressed when I read my classmates work. They really bothered to put the time and effort into their blogs, and wall the effort they put in was definitely worth it because they did a great job. Blogging will benefit me in the future because; I got to improve on my writing, learned how to use another website, and I got to realize how amazing the people at my school can write.

Coco Chanel’s Famous Little Black Dress

Coco Chanel’s Little Black Dress (Written from Coco’s point of view)

I know that many people write articles, biographies, essays and much more on Coco Chanel, and her little black dress, but has anyone ever bothered to become Coco Chanel herself, and write from Coco’s point of view? I think not. So, let me be the first one if I must, to write the famous little black dress story from my “Coco Chanel” point of view.

The little black dress is a popular fashion basic that most women have handy in their closets. I invented the Little Black Dress in 1926, designed to be worn on fancy and casual occasions. I was inspired to create a plain black, but basic and elegant dress. It had the concept of a dress that can be worn up or down. The genius of my idea was recognized immediately. People were asking me to make them a little black dress the first week it was out, I had a waiting list up to 7 months. The idea of the dress had come to me on a random time when I was sipping some champagne, while sitting on my balcony. I was thinking about how much money woman wasted on buying an evening gown, and another dress to be worn for casual outings. I said to myself, “Coco, you can make a fashion line that will still be worn and appreciated by many in the future. Why can’t you make a dress that ladies can wear at any time?” and that was when it hit me. I went inside, walked over to my desk, grabbed some sheets of paper, found a sketch pen, and began to sketch my new gold dipped idea. It was the first dress cut in a simple low cut design, but with elegant flair. Later, once the dress had been on sale, I received a phone call from the costume designer of Breakfast at Tiffany’s. He said that I had to make a special little black dress for Audrey Hepburn. I said that I needed all of her measurements, and that he shouldn’t bother, because I would just come to America on my own. The day I got there, I was somehow charmed to see this Audrey. Her figure was stunning, sometimes she reminded me of myself when I was young. I made her a black dress that did not end at the knees, but stopped at the ankle with long slits up to her knees. It gave the dress an exciting sophisticated twist. By the time I returned to France the people had already heard about Audrey’s dress, and started asking for a replica. At first I hesitate, then I soon noticed this would be a great opportunity for me to open up to the little black dress, and make it more worthwhile having it in your closet. So, I created more styles and types of the little black dress. The little black dress was adored by many, and also loved by me.

Ain’t Fashion Easy? Or Is It Just A Whole Lotta Work For The Weekends?

16 05 2009

We all know that hitting the runway isn’t the world’s easiest thing. It takes a lot of effort, practice, and time. Hot Couture doesn’t magically appear into your closets, its gets there through some pretty hard work. Designers are constantly under stress creating the next “big” thing. They don’t want to copy or else it’ll look like they have no personality. They can’t create just anything or they’ll look like a loser. Designers travel to many different countries and cities so they can inspire themselves through culture. Lately, many designers have been booking their first class tickets to Italy. Italy, one of the most beautiful and charming places in the world. Venice has been a rather hit for those top designers and designers to-be. Venice is full of color! From the water, to the boats, to the buildings, to the sky…Venice has just been utter bliss for the human being’s mind, especially when they need ideas. Italy allowed many people realize that you CAN put pale colors with bright colors like blue, orange, and red. As long as you do not go overload with it, then it would look busy. Colors and patterns don’t just pop out from under your noses, and magically onto your clothing. People travel around the world, look around their own city, spend long hours each night mixing colors, and/or looking at colors and patterns from previous centuries and cultures. You can’t just open a book and find all the colors and patterns you will need for a lifetime. It takes hard good old fashion work to find them, and get it all done in time for the latest fashion show, etc. After accomplishing step 1 (getting the ideas), it’s time for getting it produced. Creating the product multiple times for the stores located worldwide takes time as well. But, with the new technology out these days it has been much more easier and less difficult to make clothes. But, for more sensitive things like fur, you must have them hand made which explains why some things cannot be sold to a person directly from the store, but must be ordered. You see fur on purses, now you ask yourself, “Does it take a bunch of time for the fur to get on the purse?”. Well, the answer is no, because fur on the purses can easily be sewed on to the purse at the end. Companies that sell purses are prepared for this, which is also why you don’t see much fur on purses and when you do there’s a big chance that it’s sold out already because of its rareness. Fur is an expensive material to buy. Most designers have the money to pay for it, but others don’t so they try there hardest to not include actually furs and scales as much as they can. After completing step 2 as well, we continue on to our last and final step; showing off your product. Many people throw big bash’s including a sneak preview of their season’s clothing line, while some wait for the season premiere with the other designers. From there out, people criticize or give compliments about the clothing line, and people make the choice to buy your clothes or not. Now, maybe next time you enter a store, think about how much work and time it takes to get there, and the thought so their product will please you, and attract your attention.

How shoes and clothes affect our daily lives(:

10 05 2009

How Shoes and clothes affect our daily lives.

Our choices about clothes and shoes are maybe one of the most important choices we make. They express our personality and they help us represent ourselves. We as people tend to judge each other by what we wear, and some use it as an advantage to seem or feel and be accepted by their peers. Shoes are an important part of our daily lives. The decisions we make on our shoes believe it or not have a lot to do about our health as well. Wearing bad and uncomfortable shoes can mess up our spine, knees, hips and other areas below waist. Wearing bad shoes could make us get scoliosis. Scoliosis is when there is an abnormal curvage in your spine. Having scoliosis makes it harder to bend and flex. Doing everyday things in life are made difficult for us to accomplish. Shoes are also a great way to show our sense of style; shoes are like a type of art. Fashion in general is art, actually. Shoes are a big health factor and a great way to express and show each other what our personalities’ are like. If a person wears sneakers (Converse) you can tell what type of a person they are. Most likely, they are very active and jumpy, and definitely artsy (dancer, artist, singer, etc.). If a girl/lady you meet or know tends to where a bunch of high heels, they are probably the type that is very formal, and sophisticated. They like to strut their stuff; sometimes self- absorbed people wear them too (no offense). If you wear a lot of ballet flats, you’re probably a very sensitive and/or soft person. Now, I’ve given you a lot of examples on shoes and how they have an effect on our daily lives, now onto clothes. Clothes are the most common way to express someone’s personality and things they are into. Athletic people wear slacks, comfy clothes, team shirts, and clothes like that. Sophisticated [workaholic] people usually wear formal shoes, high heels, straight lines, and solids (colors), Clothes don’t always have to be expensive for someone to know what type of person you are. Clothes are honestly the most flexible money orientated way to express yourself. Unlike how bags, shoes, and others usually are loved and adored by people if they are name-branded from famous designers. Clothes and shoes are a wonderful yet someway cheap way to show off. People love clothes and shoes (mostly women) and there is not stopping it.

Neon Brights a No Go or a Yes Way?

2 05 2009

Neon Brights a No Go or a Yes Way?

Neon Brights were a tremendous choice of color in clothing and accessories last summer, but are they coming again with a whopping effect right before the summer once more? Well, according to Vogue, and other magazines they are saying a yes for the old style taking a rapid effect on the people once more. Candy hues to eye-popping bright colors the old trend is hitting the runway and the streets of many cities. The neon colors are coming out open many purses and most definitely tights. Tights came back in style last year in Spring 2008; they started off with pale colors, then descended off to darker shades, and now have rested upon the brightest of all. Stars like Michelle Monaghan arrived at many social events wearing bright neon colored dresses with her matching glow in the dark nails. Stars like her definitely enjoy the dramatic look when she chooses what to wear. Neon Brights might not be for everyone though. As many people are complaining about how the fashion industry is allowing such a trend to repeat it self again so quickly. Some just do not like the color in general. They think its too lurid in color for them, or for anyone. But, the others intensely adore the trend. Personally, for me the trend is perfect. The trend will definitely need some courage to pull of, but with the right accessories, and shoes I believe that anyone can pull off a look as bright and glowing like this one. Neon Brights are a wonderful and fantastic way to show off your taste in style, and they are a fun way to spend the rest of the day in.

Novelty Sweaters got a Comeback, and it’s STRONG.

25 04 2009

Fashion is everywhere; it’s also a passion for many. Like a passion for dancing, the feeling you get when you’re in the flow of music, it’s like that but different. Fashion let’s us express ourselves through fabric and colors. We can do whatever we want with fashion; there are no rules except for looking good. Designers bring back the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and the future into their designs. Recently a 80s novelty sweater trend has been hopping around everywhere. Looks like the animal prints are back in style, and Vogue has been making sure everyone has got the front row seat to all the latest designs. In the 80s, the cat print had hit the runways with a large roar, and the screaming fans to match. Novelty sweaters were a big thing, but now knowing that we are in the 21st century people don’t want to see their old clothing again. They just got them all trashed out, so why bring it again? Because, the 21st century has got a new taste. But that doesn’t always mean that the old must be trashed out. The re-creation of the novelty sweaters by many famous designers is modern, but comfy, practical, and stylish. Top designers like Prada, Eley Kishimoto, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and Miu Miu are adopting this old design into their new seasons clothing line. Novelty sweaters may not sound like such a good idea at the moment, but if you’ve got the love for the 80s and a big heart for fashion, then you just might be able to pull of this look without looking like your mom. It may be a task, but with all the designers’ new styles to the sweater coming out, not looking like your mom might not be as hard as it seems.
